African Blues: My Life in Indigo

A lecture with Gasali Adeyemo

Master textile artist Gasali Adeyemo has made a life working with African indigo.

African Blues: My Life in Indigo” is a talk which tours us though his native Nigerian culture,  the story of how fiber art came into his life, and the history of designs used in the Yoruba culture. Gasali discusses his three main resist techniques: batik, Adire Eleko and tie-dye.

Gasali will also talk deeply about many aspects of indigo: where it comes from, what it represents in culture, and how it is used medicinally, spiritually and artistically.
