Borders and Edgings: Embroidered Finishing Stitches

In this workshop we’ll cover several edgings stitched with a needle, from variations on the blanket and buttonhole stitch to needle lace that you might mistake for crochet. We’ll make picots in a couple different ways and try a decorative embroidery stitch as a border. We’ll also play with adding fringe to a piece.

This is a skills based class where we will learn: blanket stitch, buttonhole stitches with simple variations, blanket with bullion and “knot” picots, basic needle lace used in Transylvania Palestrina stitch as a border or edging, and how to making fringe (which is used in Transylvania and Matyo work in Hungary).
