TATTER is embarking upon an expansion that will allow us to deepen our programming, become more accessible, and expand our embrace of community. We’re building a new space in the heart of Brooklyn’s cultural district, to convene people and conversation, exploring textile’s unique ability to bring people together. Tatter’s new flagship at 230 Ashland Place will be home to our library and exhibition galleries, and provide gathering space for special events, artist openings, public workshops and retail.
The demand for what we do has never been greater.
Textile arts has, for decades, longed for a centralized community space and an organizational steward to advance underrepresented textile artists, promote learning, engage social questions, preserve heritage, and encourage joy.
This moment offers a singular opportunity to create a “hub” for textile conversation centrally located in the cultural district of downtown Brooklyn. Our new site, easily accessible by public transportation, and architect-designed to invite foot traffic, shares a streetscape with other compelling organizations and cultural destinations like:

TATTER is committed to gathering the threads of textile conversation, and to making a home for the appreciation, study, exhibition, exploration, making & preservation of textile arts.
Our programming and library are used by hundreds of artists, scholars, historians and designers each year. Our new space at 230 Ashland Place is designed to accommodate more classes, to display library materials and objects, and to build out our educational programming.
