A Virtual Class with Aaron Sanders Head

In this workshop, Aaron will lead us through all the steps to make a beautiful and utilitarian oven mitt. The fabric will be embellished, quilted, lined and constructed entirely with hand stitches. This will make a meaningful addition to your kitchen, or a thoughtful gift for the holiday season!

The virtual workshop will cover: stitching and hand-quilting basics, two stitching patterns, construction and lining of oven mitt.

  • 2 x exterior fabric – 11″ x 11″ pieces
  • 2 x lining – 11″ x 11″ piece
  • 2 x Insulbright – 11″ x 11″ pieces – alternatives are wool blanket, extra layers of batting, or flannel
  • 2 x quilt batting – 11″ x 11″ pieces
  • Stitching thread 
  • Pins
  • Quilting ruler

OUR TEACHER
Aaron Sanders

Aaron Sanders Head is a Southern textile artist focused on natural dyes and hand-stitching. Aaron explores the intersections of practices of the past with contemporary craft, and the ways that sewing and textile arts can aid in increasing diversity and representation in the creative class.

Aaron is based in Greensboro, Alabama where he lives in an 1830s home with his partner, musician Tim Higgins, and maintains an active studio practice and extensive dye garden used in his work.
