On October 14, TATTER welcomes the Royal School of Needlework to our Brooklyn studio!
The event will begin with a short presentation from Dr. Isabella Rosner, Curator of Textiles at the school, about the unique history of the RSN, its current work, and its rich collection of textiles.
Following this, Isabella and Jordana Munk Martin, founder of TATTER, will be in conversation about creative life working with their respective collections, digging into the richness and humanity that can be found in stitches across continents and centuries, and the inevitable stories that working with a collection reveals.
This is a rare opportunity to meet staff from the RSN, which is based at Hampton Court Palace in London, UK.

Our Speakers
Jordana Munk Martin, MFA RISD 2001, is the founder of TATTER and Editor-in-Chief of TatterJournal, a semi-annual journal surveying textiles within contemporary practice in Fine Arts, Design and Culture. She is the former Board President of the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY, as well as the founder of its Artist in Residence program. She served as a trustee of the Craft and Folk Art Museum (Craft Contemporary) in Los Angeles, CA from 2012-2018.
Dr Isabella Rosner is the Curator of Textiles and Contextual Studies Lecturer at the Royal School of Needlework. She is the author of Stitching Freedom: Embroidery and Incarceration (Common Threads Press) and Fierce is the Needle (forthcoming from Bloomsbury and St Martin’s). Isabella also hosts the successful Sew What? podcast about historical needlework and those who stitched it.
